What We Need to Do- The List

As soon as I begin my term as Director from District 1 I will push for:
  1. A new Superintendent chosen from qualified candidates who already work for the District and have a demonstrated commitment to our community.
  2. The elimination of the Measurement of Academic Progress.
  3. The end of our relationship with Teach for America.
  4. A return to a decision-making model that empowers our teachers and fosters a more positive relationship with the Seattle Education Association.
  5. A re-evaluation of the role that Alliance for Education and other outside organizations play in our District.
  6. A comprehensive review of all Central Office employees who have ties to those outside organizations.
  7. The end to the outsourcing of our curriculum development.
  8. A freeze on all new textbook adoptions until a thorough district-wide inventory has been completed.
  9. A thorough examination of the Central Office's staffing numbers.
  10. A sane Student Assignment Plan taking into account accuracy in capacity management and student enrollment numbers
Think of this list as a start.  My focus is on re-directing our limited funds toward student-centered expenditures.  This list is not prioritized yet, and may change slightly.  It is not set in stone.
